The NRL sacked former players from working in The Bunker, in a move that is sure to further frustrate fans in 2021.
After a series of screamers with the red and green buttons by officials, former players were brought into the bunker to add a bit of “common sense” to the decision making a few years ago.
But in another move to cut the budget, the players were kicked out, leaving the referees and retired referees to do all of the decision-making.
The move is sure to cause more confusion and frustration for fans, with many of the men in the box not having a “feel” for the game.
Four former players – Ben Lowe, Beau Scott, Bryan Norrie and Ben Galea – helped the refs last year and clashed with them often over decisions.
The referees felt that the players did not understand the rules, while the players felt that the referees did not use the “football sense”, adding to the problems between the two groups.
TIGERS KEEPING TABS ON HASTINGS
A strong rumor has been circulating since last week that talented half-back Jackson Hastings is set to join the Wests Tigers.
Hastings has been the No.7 star in England for the past two seasons and has returned to Oz during the holiday season.

Seasoned hooker Danny Levi could find his way to the Broncos this year – through the back door.
The former Manly and Knights hooker has had several NRL club nibbles as well as offers to go to the Super League.
But he ended up agreeing to terms with foster Broncos club Norths Devils in the Queensland Cup, where he will be a practical asset for coach Rohan Smith – son of former veteran coach Brian Smith.
And if the Broncos go through a similar injury crisis to the one that plagued them last year, Levi could find himself getting called back at some point at some point in 2021.

The sacrifices the Warriors made last season to keep the competition going have been well documented – and it’s been hard to start over this year.
