This last weekend was the 25th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise, and The Pokémon Company, Game Freak and Nintendo did everything to mark the occasion. Sure advertisement of Pokémon Legends: Arceus and Shiny Diamond and Shiny Pearl Pokémon (more than a better look at the new Pokémon Snap), The Pokémon Company also hosted a virtual concert with Post Malone on Saturday evening. At the end of the virtual performance, it was revealed that Pokémon was receiving a special star-studded musical album to celebrate its 25th anniversary.
Pokémon 25: The Album is a digital compilation featuring music from artists such as the pop singer Katy Perry, reggaeton star J Balvin and, yes, Post Malone. “Pokémon is going all out for P25 Music, and I am delighted to join the program as one of its key contributors,” J Balvin said in a press release. “I can’t wait to add my own unique flavor to this huge Pokemon party and add more good vibes to the celebration.”
The album, which will be released by Capitol Records of Universal Music Group, features 14 songs by 11 UMG artists. We have already received Post Malone’s special cover of “Only Wanna Be with You” by Hootie & the Blowfish, and now Katy Perry, J Balvin and another “surprise superstar artist” will be releasing a Pokémon-inspired song. Whenever a new song is released, fans will be treated to an accompanying music video and exclusive merchandise featuring Pokémon and the artist. The album will be available in its entirety digitally closer to the end of the year, with the songs hitting individually until then. Additional song collaborations with popular artists around the world will be revealed in the coming months, and the company is promising “very” Pokemon “ways for the songs to be released.
