The Pokémon Company has unveiled a new game mechanic called Battle Styles. Inspired by Urshifu, the new legendary Pokémon from Pokémon Sword & Shield Isle of Armor expansion, Battle Styles allows Pokémon cards to carry either a unique hitting style or a quick hitting style. The mechanic will be implemented as part of the newly announced Pokémon Trading Card Game expansion: Sword and Shield – Fighting Styles.
Much like the Urshifu styles in the Isle of Armor expansion, Single Strike cards have a tiny bit of red and offer unique and powerful attacks with the ability to knock out opponents in one hit. Meanwhile, Rapid Strike cards feature a blue decoration with slightly more devious and technical attacks and allow them to attack their opponents when they least expect it. These styles are also available as Trainer and Energy cards, which help Pokémon of the matching style allow you to build Single Strike or Rapid Strike-centric decks.
The new Pokémon Trading Card Game: Sword and Shield – Battle Styles Expansion introduces this game mechanic, bringing 60 Battle Style cards, 12 Pokémon V cards, 16 full Pokémon V cards, 6 Pokémon VMAX cards, 19 Trainer cards, 6 complete cards – Supporter card art and 2 Special Energy cards. You can check out some of the new maps including Single Strike Tyranitar V, Rapid Strike Empoleon V, and four different Urshifu maps in the gallery below.
The Pokémon Trading Card Game: Sword & Shield – Battle Styles expansion launches on March 19. To learn more about the Pokémon Trading Card Game, check out our great galleries for the most recent expansions.
