President Nancy Pelosi has said the House will impeach Trump for the second time if he is not removed from office.
- United States House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Democrats would bring forward a resolution on Monday calling on Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove President Donald Trump from office.
- If Pence does not comply, Pelosi said Democrats would present an article of impeachment against Trump for his role in inciting a deadly riot.
- Trump remains banned from all major social media accounts in the wake of the riot, which left five dead, including a Capitol Hill police officer.
- Several Republicans have joined with Democrats in calling for Trump’s resignation or impeachment, while party officials have said impeachment will further divide.

Army investigates officer who participated in Trump rally before riot
The US military is investigating a psychological operations officer who led a group of people from North Carolina to the rally in Washington, DC, which led to the deadly riot on the United States Capitol by Trump supporters.
Fort Bragg commanders are examining Captain Emily Rainey’s involvement in last week’s events in the nation’s capital, but she said she acted within military regulations and no one in her group violated the law.
“I was a private citizen and I was doing everything right and within my rights,” Rainey told The Associated Press on Sunday.
Rainey said she led 100 members of Moore County Citizens for Freedom, which describes itself online as a non-partisan network promoting conservative values, to the Washington rally to “stand up against voter fraud” and support Trump. She said she didn’t know anyone who entered the Capitol and they returned to their buses hours before an emergency curfew came into effect.
Rainey, 30, is assigned to 4th Psychological Operations Group at Fort Bragg, according to Major Daniel Lessard, a spokesperson for 1st Special Forces Command. Known as PSYOPS, the group uses information and misinformation to shape the emotions, decision-making and actions of American adversaries.

The First Lady condemns the violence on the Capitol and the “ salacious gossip ” surrounding the event
First Lady Melania Trump broke her silence on last week’s violence on Monday when rioters loyal to her husband, outgoing President Donald Trump, stormed the Capitol.
“I am disappointed and disheartened by what happened last week,” she said in a long statement. “It’s inspiring to see that so many people have found a passion and an enthusiasm to participate in an election, but we must not allow that passion to turn into violence.”
She added that her heart went out to those who had died since the attack, naming first the rioters who died and then two Capitol Hill police officers, one who died on Thursday and the other died on Saturday.
The first lady condemned the violence, but did not refer to her husband’s role in angering supporters with false allegations of electoral fraud and prompting them to march to Capitol Hill, but denounced “the salacious gossip, the unwarranted personal attacks and deceptive false accusations ”said to have surrounded the incident.
She did not elaborate on the gossip she was referring to.

‘We will act urgently’: Pelosi says House will impeach Trump
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Sunday that the House would continue with the impeachment process against President Trump as she pressured Vice President Mike Pence to invoke constitutional authority to remove Trump from office at the sequel to last week’s deadly assault on the Capitol.
On Monday, Pelosi’s management team will call for a vote on a resolution Call on the Vice President and Cabinet officials to invoke the 25th Amendment, a constitutional provision that allows the Vice President and Cabinet to remove the President from office if they deem him incapable of performing his duties.
Pence and the Cabinet would have 24 hours to act before the House proceeds with the impeachment.
“We will act urgently, as this president poses an imminent threat,” Pelosi said in a letter Sunday evening to his colleagues. “The horror of the continued attack on our democracy perpetrated by this president intensifies, as does the need for immediate action.”
