When Rob Gronkowski crushed Mike Evans’ post-game Super Bowl interview with NFL Network by saying, “Yo, he has to show up!” It was a callback to Gronk’s fun side. It’s a side we mostly see after seeing Gronk’s dominant side – the one we saw on the pitch at Super Bowl LV on Sunday.
Many doubted the former Patriot after ending his one-year retirement and returning to the NFL this year, but the future Hall-of-Famer saved his best all-around game of the season to last, catching six assists (tied for a season-high) for 67 yards (third most this year) and two touchdowns (tied for a season high). It was like Tampa was saving him for this moment, and he delivered.
Sure, Tampa probably had an idea he could wreak havoc against Kansas City given that Gronkowski caught six of seven targets for 106 yards against the Chiefs in the regular season, but ultimately the three-time Super Bowl champion gave us another reminder. that he could be the best ever at his post (common theme Sunday night, eh?). He also gave us two vicious, vintage “Gronk Spikes” along the way.
Gronkowski certainly works well with Tom Brady, as both set the post-season touchdown record in the first trimester when they logged in for the 13th time. They later increased the bet to 14 with their touchdown in the second quarter. Gronk also joined Jerry Rice as the only player in history with multiple touchdowns in multiple Super Bowls with his two wins in Super Bowl LV. He also did it against the Eagles in Super Bowl LII.
In 20 career playoff games, he caught 89 passes for 1,273 yards and 14 touchdowns. That includes 29 catches for 431 yards and five touchdowns in five Super Bowls.
At just 31 years old, Gronk could come back and do it all again next year, already claiming he will stay “not withdrawn, “but we know he enjoys his free time, whether it’s working as a studio host, wrestling, or just partying.
He did the latter after winning another Super Bowl, even shouting the iconic line “We’re going to Disney World!” With her boyfriend Brady.
After his performance on Sunday evening, why not? Let’s just hope Mickey, Goofy and Donald are ready to “show up”.
UPDATE: More partying with Gronk:
