Star of Melbourne Storm Ryan papenhuyzen says coach Craig Bellamy apologized to him after saying James german was the best fullback in the NRL.

After winning the Clive Churchill Medal in the NRL Grand Final last year, the Papenhuyzen star has continued to rise, with his four downs performance against the Broncos in the fourth round confirming his status as one of the best young players in the game.

Asked about the rise of Papenhuyzen after the match by journalists, Bellamy said the Roosters star was still the best No. 1 in the game, and feared that he had offended his young star by saying so.

It was then that the legendary Storm coach picked up the phone and called the 22-year-old to ease any tensions that may have arisen from the media sit-in.

“He wasn’t sure whether his comments were the right thing to say or not, he thought he could have said he preferred Teddy or something,” Papenhuyzen said.

“I think he wasn’t sure what he said last week and he called me to tell me he definitely supported me and I said, ‘man, I saw the ‘article, I’m glad you even raped me’. “

While Papenhuyzen has enjoyed a meteoric rise in recent seasons, Tedesco is still the outgoing full-back for the Blues and Australia.

The two-star full-backs will face off on Friday night when the Storm host Tedesco and the Roosters at AAMI Park on Friday night.
