Those who wish to use the feature will need to make sure that they are running the latest version of the app. Signal will automatically update old groups to the new groups interface, which displays a video call button at the top of the chat, in the coming weeks. Group calls will display participants in a grid view, but users can easily swipe up to switch to a view that focuses the screen on the person who is currently speaking.
The bad news is that Signal’s group video calling feature won’t work for large classes or meetings, as it’s currently limited to just five participants. The developer of the app says it is working to increase the number of people who can participate in video calls, with the promise of making it happen “soon.”
