No release date has been set for the design, as it will only now begin product development with input from Sega, but will eventually be released worldwide. You can see the conceptual image of the set below:
The design garnered 10,000 votes as part of the LEGO Ideas program, which allows fans to submit homemade designs to be voted on by the LEGO community. Sets that get traction like this have the chance to be made into real products.
“I’ve been invested in the world of Sonic for most of my life,” said designer Viv Grannell, “and it’s such a perfect fit for the LEGO system that I’ve spent about a year mobilizing support. for that to happen. Receiving 10,000 people for my design was overwhelming enough, even with my friends and family behind me, but getting it selected for further development was the most exciting secret I’ve ever had to keep!
The scene is based on the 2017 Green Hill Zone level Sonic mania and includes a host of Sonic characters such as the titular hedgehog, Dr. Eggman, the Egg Robot, and the Hard-Boiled Heavies. “Featuring a wide variety of Classic Sonic-inspired elements, the set will give LEGO collectors and Sonic fans a truly supersonic LEGO experience,” the LEGO press release states.
