Twelve members of the U.S. Army National Guard withdrawn from presidential inauguration security mission after discovering they had links to right-wing militias or posting controversial opinions online, news agencies reported on Tuesday.

Washington has been out of breath since the deadly insurgency on Capitol Hill, which prompted extraordinary security measures before Biden’s inauguration. A fire at a homeless camp near the Capitol complex caused a lockdown on Monday during a rehearsal for the inauguration.

The U.S. Secret Service has stepped up security in and around the Capitol a few days earlier than usual in preparation, and the city center is essentially locked down with blocked streets, high fences installed, and tens of thousands of soldiers and d law enforcement officers stationed around the area.

The Secret Service issued a bulletin this weekend on what they see as a “rise” in National Guard troops posting photos and details of their operations online.

Early Tuesday morning, the FBI sent a list of names to the National Guard Bureau who were identified as having ties to right-wing fringe groups or who had posted radical views online. The information was passed from the National Guard Office to the DC National Guard.

Last week, the Virginia National Guard said Jacob Fracker, an off-duty police officer charged in connection with the violent riots on Capitol Hill, was a corporal in state guard and serving as an infantryman.
