Valheim: How to Open Sunken Crypts and Find Iron

Must read

[ad_1]

If you’ve been to the world of Valheim, you may have come far beyond the prairies and black forests and are ready to begin exploring the more dangerous swamp biome. Of course, the swamp is full of advanced skeleton enemies, blobs, leeches, and more, but it’s also home to a number of sunken crypts.

Sunken crypts are a small type of dungeon, much like troll caves or burial chambers you may know from the Black Forest. However, if you’ve just wandered the swamp from another biome without doing your homework, you might discover an unfortunate aspect of these Sunken Crypts. Unlike the dungeons before them, the Sunken Crypts are locked. Are you still starting? Discover our starter kit here, our The Black Forest dives here, and our introductory cooking class here.

Fear not, these Sunken Crypts can all be unlocked with a non-consumable item held by The Elder. Yes. Basically if you want to decipher those crypts and continue with the standard progression (without any very daring and incredibly dangerous sequences like navigating the Plains biome, which I don’t recommend at all), you’re going to have to take down The Elder to enter the many crypts located in the swamp. One key will unlock all the doors you need, so you can open the door to many dungeons for your friends if they haven’t beaten The Elder, or you can go with someone else who has one.

If playing with friends, approach the Sunken Crypts as a group. The reasoning behind this isn’t because of the dangers involved, as a little careful and careful gameplay can keep you a safe distance from poison slimes and assorted skeletal melee fighters, but because of the kind of goods you get. will collect.

This is your first chance in Valheim to start getting Scrap to turn it into Iron, the next great level of goods to upgrade your base, ship, tools, and weaponry. Iron is a big deal. However, it is also incredibly heavy. You’ll find large piles of iron storage inside the chests inside the Sunken Crypts, and you can also collect it in pieces from the large garbage piles inside. Bring your best pickax, as you have to crush a lot of rubble to maneuver in these dungeon areas. Since the iron is so heavy, once you find a good supply it may take several runs to get it back to your operational base depending on how many people are working there.

The preferred method of transporting iron

Iron and other minerals have a special property in Valheim that keeps things from getting too easy. You cannot bring iron through a portal. This means that if you have your great genius base far away, far away from the dangers of swamps, plains, and other wicked biomes, you will have to bring it home without the perks of just walking through a portal. For most gaming trips, portals allow you to move from point to point just by going through the magic gate, so creating a ton of them and labeling them correctly is just a bargain. When transporting large amounts of high quality ore like we are doing here, you will need a good ship to bring them back to your main base.

While investigating the Sunken Crypts, there’s a good chance you’ll also stumble upon the next major runestone that locates the next level boss, the Bonemass on your map. You’ll need Withered Bones to summon the Bonemass, which you can also find littered with Sunken Crypts. Basically your time in the swamps should be focused on running the crypt and growing the surges outside for huge amounts of coal and surtling cores to have portal capabilities all over the world. A portal room in your home base is highly recommended to continue exploring the world further.
