Australia is in trouble on the first morning of the Boxing Day Test, with India claiming three early wickets.
Joe Burns (0), Matt Wade (30) and Steve Smith (0) all fell in the opening 70 minutes to leave Australia 3-38.
“I think Burns and Wade are sixth,” former Australian spinner Kerry O’Keeffe told Fox Cricket.
“They both go one and two, suddenly you’re two for and Steve Smith is in it.”
India lost one of their critics after unsuccessfully contesting an LBW appeal by referee Paul Reiffel, who dismissed an appeal against Marnus Labuschagne. The replays showed the ball passing over the stumps.
“In the top five there is a good starter, Marnus Labuschagne,” added O’Keeffe.
“The other four like to feel like they’re beating the ball, and that’s a problem on the first day in Melbourne where there’s a seam.
“Your best friend is on vacation.”
Smith was sacked for just his third duck in an Australian test, caught in Ravi Ashwin’s bowling leg-slip.
“It was like a lack of focus on Steve Smith’s part,” Shane Warne said on Fox Cricket.
“He knew he had a leg slip and men around the bat.”
