I asked you, dear readers, your predictions for 2021, and OMG you all had predictions. I thought I knew what I was getting myself into – I was wrong. Now my inbox may be in need of a digital retreat.

The tl; dr: Many of you believe that the long-term impact of the pandemic will not go away, but its effects have been overestimated. While consumers have likely formed lifelong habits that drive e-commerce, grocery delivery, and healthcare technology, you still expect our pre-pandemic behavior to return – to some extent. You also anticipate a greater focus on closing the wealth gap.

What’s also telling is what you don’t say: For 2020, readers predicted a recession. This word did not appear this time. Instead, many of you expect the ratings of some software and productivity companies to return to a “healthy” point.

Here is an excerpt from your predictions. You can read a lot more here.

This is not the end of Silicon Valley: “Silicon Valley will continue to be at the top of the totem pole in terms of innovation, but we will also see a distribution of capital, talent and entrepreneurship in other cities, which is clearly a good thing. . In the same way that Utah is a hub for SaaS companies, Seattle for travel and real estate, or New York for fintech, we will see micro-communities emerge across the country. – Pete Flint, General Partner, NFX

Valuations are falling: “As we come back from the pandemic and there is a rotation of dollars from the technology sectors to the travel, hospitality and energy sectors affected by the pandemic, we will see the multiples of 2021 return. at normal but healthy levels (20 to 25 times income over time). ” – Dharmesh Thakker, General Partner, Battery Ventures

Offices are coming back: “The death of office culture and the appeal of remote working have been massively exaggerated. Of course, we want to keep some flexibility; But employees of companies of all sizes that have been moved away this year crave connection from their peers and crave to feel the solidarity that has sprung from a shared mission. – Nicole Johnson, Partner, Forerunner Ventures

Some very specific transactions can be concluded or failed: “DoorDash drops below $ 100 in July.” – Jerry Chen

“Microsoft buys Akami.” – Bill Mahoney

“Google Cloud, Microsoft or Vmware will acquire Hashi in 2021. Another important acquisition would be Google Cloud acquires Confluent. There will be a wave of acquisitions in the security area. Numerous acquisitions by Crowdstrike, Palo Alto, Zscaler. ” – Aksoy line

And it will be another robust year for IPOs: Many of you have predicted this, and this forecast looks very promising. Coinbase cryptocurrency marketplace said he deposited confidentially for an IPO. Just like the buzzy software and the start of automation UiPath. And the second-hand clothing market is now profitable Poshmark also revealed its IPO prospectus.

HOUSEKEEPING: Due to the Gmail outage three days earlier, some Gmail-based readers may not have received the condition sheet in recent days. You can find them the versions of newsletter here.

That said, we will be on leave until January 4th. See you next year!
