It is not known which videos were removed as there are still some available that were posted just seven hours ago, but the channel has now received a warning and will not be able to upload new content for at least one week. Video comments are also disabled, and like other platforms, Google-owned YouTube later cited “lingering concerns about violence” as the reason.
New York Times reporter Davey Alba Earlie tweetedr about a video that has since been deleted where Trump said things like “there is always a counter-initiative” and “our journey has only just begun”. While YouTube was not so specific, Twitter explained his ban by examining the context of the published statements, claiming that “they were very likely to encourage and inspire people to replicate the criminal acts that took place on the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021.” Based on comments left on this video and statements from supporters, it appears the possibility of inspiring further violence has prompted YouTube to act.
2 / Given the lingering concerns about violence, we will also be turning off comments on President Trump’s channel indefinitely, as we have done on other channels where security concerns can be found in the comments section. https://t.co/1aBENHGU5z
