At least five people, including four medics, were killed after a magnetic bomb attached to their car exploded in the Afghan capital, Kabul.
Doctors were heading to Pul-e-Charkhi prison, located on the eastern outskirts of Kabul, which houses hundreds of Taliban fighters, according to Kabul police spokesman Ferdaws Faramarz.
It was not immediately clear whether medics were the target of Tuesday’s attack.
The fifth person killed in the explosion has not yet been identified.
Two other people were injured in the blast, Faramarz said.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack which damaged nearby buildings and shops.
The attacks continue
The ISIL group (ISIS) has reportedly been behind multiple attacks in Kabul in recent months.
ISIL also claimed responsibility for Saturday’s rocket attacks on a US military base in Afghanistan.
There were no casualties in the assault, according to NATO and provincial officials.
Monday, armed men murdered afghan journalist Rahmatullah Nekzad – the third journalist killed in two months – in the eastern town of Ghazni.
The day before, a car bomb in Kabul killed at least nine people and injured more than 15.
The victims included politician Khan Mohammad Wardak, according to the Afghan Interior Ministry.
Violence in Afghanistan has increased even as Taliban and Afghan government negotiators hold talks in Qatar, trying to strike a peace deal that could end decades of war.
