Aryna Sabalenka and Elise Mertens defeated Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova in the women’s doubles final

Aryna Sabalenka’s celebration said it all.

The young Belarusian weapon and the Belgian star Elise Mertens were delighted after sew the Australian Open women’s doubles title – so much so that Sabalenka released some groovy dance steps on Rod Laver Arena.

Sabalenka and Mertens joined forces to defeat Czech pair Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova 6-2 6-3.

The Belgo-Belarusian duo dominated the 79-minute clash, coming out sharper in comebacks and smarter with setting as they clinically conquer their opponents.

This is the second Grand Slam victory the couple have taken together after claiming the US Open title in 2019, when between them they have now captured a women’s doubles title in all four majors.

Mertens said the key to their success was making sure they had fun – and that was fully on display in Sablenka’s post-match stencil.

“I think it’s good not to be stressed all the time,” Mertens said at the post-match press conference.

“We have singles and it’s stressful enough. Then we have doubles, so we try to make it fun.

“But of course when you’re on the court you want to win.”

Sabalenka was eliminated in the fourth round of the singles tournament when she lost 4-6 6-2 4-6 to 23 times Grand Slam champion Serena Williams.

And Mertens also bowed out in the round of 16, losing 6-7 (5-7) 5-7 to compatriot Czech Karolina Muchova.
