The Melbourne Stars climbed to fourth in the BBL standings after a 111-point beating against the Adelaide Strikers tonight.

In front of their home fans at the MCG for the first time this summer, the Stars set the Strikers a giant goal of 180 up for grabs.

West Indian import Andre Fletcher, who started tonight’s game with an average of just 14.62 for the Stars’ first order, carried his side’s weight in a set that looked shaky when Marcus Stoinis left for just 13 out of 26 deliveries.

The right-hander looked like a completely different player this time around, breaking 12 limits and finishing with 89 unbeaten from 49 deliveries.

Fellow star batsman Glenn Maxwell contributed with 37 of 28, while Hilton Cartwright finished 30 of 17 deliveries to help the Stars to a grand total of opening innings.

Needing exactly nine points per touch for the win, it couldn’t have been worse for the Strikers, who posted a score of 68, the lowest in BBL history.

The Strikers after just five overs were well below the run rate at 2-18.

All the work was done by the spinners, with Maxwell claiming 2-12 of his four-out spell and Zahir Khan finishing with 2-19.

But it was Adam Zampa who was the star among the three turners, producing his best BBL bowling numbers taking 5-17.
