George RR Martin signs five-year deal with HBO

HBO remains in the George RR Martin business. The Game of thrones writer signed a global agreement to develop original programming for the network and its streaming service HBO Max, by Hollywood journalist. The five-year contract is worth eight figures and represents an effort by HBO to continue the momentum of Game of thrones, the most popular network and the most awarded all-time series. While it’s unclear how many, if any, of Martin’s projects will be connected to Game of Thrones, HBO has positioned the writer in a leading creative role to create more original content and help expand the presence. network streaming via HBO Max.Prior to this deal, George RR Martin already had other TV series in the works at HBO, producing adaptations of Nnedi’s post-apocalyptic novel Okora for Who Fears Death and Roger Zelazny’s fantasy novel Roadmarks.

Martin is also connected to projects outside of HBO. Peacock is working on Wild Cards, based on a series of novels written by Martin and others. The author’s In the Lost Lands, a collection of short stories of fantastic adventures, is developed as a feature film, with Paul WS Anderson attached to the directing and Milla Jovovich and Dave Bautista ready to star.

On top of that, Martin said that he hopes to end the winds of winter at some point by the end of this year.

The news comes a week after HBO confirmed plans to develop three new Game of Thrones spin-offs. The first carries the working title 10,000 Ships and follows House Martell’s ancestor Princess Nymeria through events set a millennium before the events of Game of Thrones. The second takes place in Flea Bottom, the King’s Landing slum that featured in the first four seasons of Thrones. The final project is developed by the creator of Rome Bruno Heller under the working title 9 Voyages. He would follow Lord Corlys Velaryon, also known as the Sea Snake.
