Google Shuts Down All Political Ads Again In Capitol Hill Riots

For the second time in the space of a few months, Google is suspend political advertising. Since January 14, the company has extended the application of its policy on sensitive events. It also puts on hold ads referring to the impeachment, inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden and “violence on the US Capitol” following the the riots of last week there, as Axios reported for the first time.

“We regularly suspend advertisements on unforeseeable and ‘sensitive’ events when the advertisements may be used to exploit the event or amplify misleading information,” a Google spokesperson told Engadget in a statement. “Beyond that, we have long-standing policies blocking content that incites violence or encourages hatred and we will be extremely vigilant in enforcing any ads that cross this line.
