Google introduces new advertising settings that allow users to see fewer ads related to gambling and alcohol. The feature will first be available on YouTube in the US, but will eventually be available for all Google ads as well. The company says it will expand the functionality globally “in early 2021”.
Google notes that it already has “rules that determine when and where gambling advertisements may be shown in accordance with local law (eg age restrictions)”, but the new setting aims to give an extra level of control to those who prefer to avoid them. It is important to note that the setting will not completely eliminate advertisements related to gambling and alcohol, although it should result in a “less” number of advertisements from companies promoting these products.
