UPDATE: The Dragons have confirmed the arrival of star forward Josh McGuire, as the 31-year-old is set to make his Red V debut in Sunday’s clash with the Warriors.

As first reported by Great world of sport, McGuire, who had recently ruffled feathers at the Cowboys, was eager to make a fresh start and his former coach Anthony Griffin was more than happy to welcome him.

The player-coach reunion is the second such deal for the Dragons this year, with Andrew McCullough also brought to the club by Griffin. With Ben Hunt and Corey Norman already at the Dragons, it’s starting to feel like a second incarnation of the Griffin Broncos team that was built ten years ago and laid the foundation for the 2015 squad that Wayne Bennett coached until the grand finale.

McGuire switched from the Broncos to the Cowboys after the 2018 season, but he was never comfortable in North Queensland, his form dipping to the point that he lost his place in the Queensland and Kangaroos teams.

His contract with the Dragons lasts until the end of next season, with his physical and tough mark of football suited well to the striker squad he is joining, which has propelled the Wollongong-based squad to fourth place. of the standings after five matches on the field. the back of a game plan designed to knock opponents into submission.

Dragons football general manager Ben Haran praised McGuire’s signing.

“The club have made no secret of their willingness to recruit an experienced striker for our current campaign and Josh certainly fits this bill,” Dragons football general manager Ben Haran said.

“Josh’s position in the game, both at the NRL and Reps level, cannot be denied and he will certainly add a lot to our current squad.

“We can’t wait to see Josh hit the ground running at the Dragons when he arrives in practice later this week.”
