Some might say Overwatch’s Winter Wonderland event has become as much a holiday tradition as it is revisiting Alone at home, to choke sip eggnog and debate Die hardChristmas movie status. If you believe this, you will probably be happy to know that the 5th annual event begins today. As usual, it comes with a new wardrobe of vacation-themed cosmetics just begging to be unlocked.
This year’s event features a new arcade brawl, the Freezethaw Elimination. In this 4v4 battle, victory comes when one team is able to completely freeze the other. Being frozen is equivalent to dying, but teammates can unfreeze to get back into the game. It’s like playing a freeze beacon, but more literally. Freethaw Elimination joins the existing Snowball Offensive arcade brawls of Mei, Yeti Hunt and Snowball Death Match.
New weekly challenges allow players to unlock limited-time player icons, sprays, and of course, rare skins. You will need to win nine games to earn these rewards. Blizzard has revealed the three Epic and five Legendary skins up for grabs over the next three weeks:
Epic skins
Week 1: Elf Junkrat
Week 2: Gingerbread Ana
Week 3: Icy Roadhog
Legendary skins
Conductor Reinhardt
Penguin Mei
The Ice Empress Moira
Toybot Zenyatta
Lumberjack Torbjorn
Hope we get some free loot boxes after registering it. It’s the season of giving, after all.
Winter Wonderland ends on January 5th, so be sure to allow some quality “ignore my family” time to ride and earn skins. Look for it on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. For more on Overwatch, find out why we think the game deserves its own Netflix animated series. In case you missed it, here are the skins Blizzard gave away this year. Anniversary, Summer games and Halloween events.
