Speak, a social networking service favored by supporters of President Trump, accused Amazon of making politically motivated decisions.
Talking LLC, a social networking service beloved by many supporters of U.S. President Donald Trump, sued Amazon.com Inc on Monday, accusing its internet hosting service of making an illegal and politically motivated decision to shut down its account.
In an antitrust complaint filed with the Seattle U.S. District Court, Parler accused Amazon of hypocrisy for suggesting it could not control its platform, including finding and removing content that encouraged violence.
Parler said Amazon Web Services closed his account Sunday night despite no suspending threats from Twitter Inc., where he said one of Friday night’s most popular tweets was “Hang Mike Pence,” a reference to the American vice-president.
“AWS’s decision to effectively close the Talk account is apparently motivated by political animosity,” the complaint states. “Parler not only lost current and future customers, Parler was also unable to find an alternative web hosting company. In short, AWS’s false claims have made Speaking an outcast. “
Parler wants a court order requiring Amazon to reestablish its account and provide the services it contracted for. He also seeks unspecified treble damages.
Amazon did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Speak was not immediately available for comment.
Twitter permanently suspended Trump’s personal account @realDonaldTrump on Friday night citing “the risk of further incitement to violence.”
The suspension came two days after the U.S. Capitol was stormed by a crowd of Trump supporters.
The Republican president had previously called on Pence to overturn the November 3 presidential election results in a joint session of Congress. Pence failed to do so and Congress upheld Democrat Joe Biden’s election.
