United States Men’s National Team midfielder Brenden Aaronson scored his first goal for Red Bull Salzburg on Wednesday as he led the way in a 3-1 win over Austria Wien.

The 20-year-old midfielder was joined on the scoresheet by Sekou Koita and Luca Sucic to defeat a side from Austria Wien which featured American Erik Palmer-Brown in defense.

Aaronson joined RB Salzburg, managed by compatriot Jesse Marsch, in January with the Austrian side paying a transfer fee of $ 6m (ÂŁ 4.6m) for the midfielder, plus up to 3 million dollars (ÂŁ 2.3 million) performance bonus.

What Aaronson had to say

“It was fantastic to be there for the team. Austria really tested us, so it was a really important victory. Our mentality was the key to our success today.

“The confidence we have gained over the past few weeks has carried us through when we fell behind.”

What Marsch had to say

“We reacted well after conceding. Until then, I was more or less satisfied with the performance.

“Then we took it up a gear and showed what sets us apart. We showed mentality and daring. I’m happy both guys scored their first goals. I’m sure we’ll see a lot more of Brenden and Luka. “

Lens view

“Goals like this explain why the USMNT should be excited about all that Aaronson has to offer.

“The former Philadelphia Union midfielder already seems relatively comfortable with his new club, having now started two of his five appearances so far for Salzburg.

“In Wednesday’s goal, Aaronson showed off the skill on the ball that has been there for some time, but what was most impressive was the balance and patience to seize the opportunity to find the second. post.

“These aspects of his game have surfaced relatively recently, with Aaronson really busting out in MLS last season after emerging as a legitimate threat in the final third.

“With USMNT set to face Northern Ireland in March, Aaronson appears to have bet on what will almost certainly be a Europe-based team.

“The midfielder’s image is very deep at the moment, with Weston McKennie, Tyler Adams and Yunus Musah involved, while Gio Reyna and Christian Pulisic could also see the weather as No 10 at some point.

“But Aaronson is apparently in a very good position right now as the 20-year-old midfielder’s next leg is off to a good start.”
