Mastercard and Visa said on Thursday that they would block their customers from using credit cards to make purchases on Pornhub following accusations on the pornographic website showing rape and underage sex videos.
They reacted to a survey by opinion columnist Nicholas Kristof from The New York Times who also alleged that the site features revenge pornography and videos taken without the consent of participants.
Mastercard said it was ending use of its cards on Pornhub after its own investigation confirmed violations of standards prohibiting illegal conduct on the site. Mastercard said it is also investigating other websites for potential illegal content.
Visa said it was suspending the use of its cards on Pornhub on Thursday even though its own investigation was incomplete.
