Cameron Smith spotted again in Gold Coast Titans Tryout match as future saga of the game continues

The NRL season is only three weeks away and Cameron Smith has yet to announce what 2021 will look like for the legendary whore.

And since the NRL fans and the media have no idea if Smith will be playing this year, the unknown is fueling the NRL rumor in the overdrive.

Smith was seen watching from the stands during a Gold Coast Titans preseason game on Friday night, despite the Titans’ categorical denials about the legend playing for Justin Holbrook’s team this season.

Smith moved with his family to Queensland after taking over as Prime Minister of the NRL 2020 in October with the Melbourne Storm. His contract with prime ministers has expired and Melbourne has made its intentions clear by announcing a double captaincy for 2021, with Jesse Bromwich and Dale Finucane, replacing Smith in the senior leadership role.

The 430-game veteran initially said he would decide his future by Christmas, but he has yet to call. Last month, Smith was spotted during a Titans Under-19 trial at Coffs Harbor.

While it can be revealed that Smith was in northern NSW to watch the Titans lower, Smith was with former Storm teammate Matt Geyer, whose son Cole plays in the under 19 from the Gold Coast.

Smith was back with Geyer on Friday night as the Titans were beaten 36-34 by the Burleigh Bears of the Queensland Cup at Pizzey Park on the Gold Coast. Regardless of the officials’ constant denials, his presence around the NRL club sparked suggestions that he would return for the Titans in 2021.

Titans coach Justin Holbrook has denied being aware of Smith’s presence in the crowd after the game.

“Oh, right? I have no idea. It’s probably because he lives here,” he said, according to The Courier-Mail.

“You told me you weren’t going to ask me anymore (laughs).”

On Tuesday, Titans general manager Steve Mitchell denied the club had been in contact with Smith.

“Retention and recruiting is something we don’t comment on, but we haven’t had any discussions (with Smith),” Mitchell said.

“The start of the season is about three weeks away… It was never considered an option.

A day after Mitchell’s comments, the Titans mysteriously announced a strengthened partnership with Marsden State High School, Smith’s former school. And oddly enough, the announcement was made in front of the “Cameron Smith Grandstand”.

The next day, the Titans were still not budging, with Queensland legend Mal Meninga again refuting claims that the Origin legend will play Robina.

“We haven’t spoken to Cam Smith, it’s 100% a fact,” Meninga said.

“It’s that simple.

“We’re talking about him living on the Gold Coast and playing for us, but we haven’t spoken to him.

“I have no idea what Cam is doing. I don’t know if he is retiring. I’m in the dark like everyone else. But I know he won’t be with the Titans.”

Adding another wrinkle to the story, the Broncos declare the public interest in harassing Smith if he does decide to keep playing.

“Look, who doesn’t want Cam Smith, he’s a legend of the game,” Broncos president Karl Morris told the Courier Mail.

“But I can honestly say I haven’t spoken to him and I don’t know anyone in the Broncos who has spoken to him.

“The ball is in his court. If Cam called a club tomorrow and said he wanted to play for them, including the Broncos, you would send a limo home.

“Which of the 16 clubs wouldn’t want Cam on their books? But we haven’t had any discussions so we haven’t planned on signing him.”
