Brisbane Heat paceman Mark Steketee got a nasty surprise after being knocked out of his side’s BBL final after a blistering start for the Perth Scorchers.
Steketee, who took the second-highest number of wickets in BBL10, was hooked to the Scorchers half-innings in exchange for South African quick Morne Morkel.
After the Scorchers ran 0-108 halfway through the innings, skipper Chris Lynn gave the stunned Steketee the marching orders after his sole was taken for 13.
Visibly unhappy with the decision, Steketee left the field, shaking his head to cover the Heat, before removing his spikes.
The decision to subtract Steketee came from left field, given that the Heat typically replace Xavier Bartlett for Morkel, as they did in their previous game.
“Bartlett generally knew he was going to have one and that he was going to be the X-Factor player,” said Mark Howard of Fox Cricket.
“Look at that reaction here, Mark Steketee didn’t realize coming into the game that he could be eliminated after 10 (overs).”
“It’s the body language of a guy who had no preparation for the news that was to come,” added Australian great Adam Gilchrist.
