Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s the new fighter is Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, and he’s heading to gaming this month. Announced at the Game Awards, it is the first new playable SSBU character since Nintendo added Oh dear of Arms in June. Sephiroth is a suitable supplement to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, since his foil, Cloud, is already in the game.

Sephiroth is the 78th character to join the game’s roster. Newer additions include Steve and Alex of Minecraft and Byleth of Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Nintendo plans to add at least three more DLC characters, bringing the roster to 81 fighters in total once all is said and done. That’s a pretty good list when you consider that SSBU was released in 2018.
